2013 Regular Legislative Session

To convene at noon on Monday, April 8, 2013.

Final adjournment no later than 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013.

GENERALLY: The month of January is a good time to meet with your constituents, local governing authorities, and other stakeholders to discuss possible legislation. Remember, this is a "limited" session so other than fiscal and local bills, you can only file FIVE "general" bills.

FIRST DEADLINE: Thursday, January 31st *** The earliest EVER!!! ***

Advertising of Retirement Bills: All retirement bills must be "advertised" and such ads must be submitted to The Advocate by Friday, February 1st at 2:00 p.m. in order for these bills to be eligible for introduction on the first day of session. Please note that this is the deadline for submission to The Advocate, but we need time to do our magic, so I suggest that you mark YOUR deadline as Thursday, January 31st to submit to HLS your retirement bill requests!

HOT TOPICS: We expect NCSL and other trade organizations to begin publishing their list of "Hot Topics" that most state legislatures will address in 2013. Later this month, we will forward to you these various "Hot Topics" lists including our own. Keep an eye out for these in your e-mail the last week of January.
